Graduation!

Saturday my Fiance graduated from College and is officially a Former Student and an Industrial Engineer. We had a great time hanging out with our families. Nick's brother and sister-in-law came all the way from California to celebrate. It was great getting to visit with them because we only get to see them about once a year. The next time we see them will be our WEDDING! Unless we sneak out to see them this summer.

It wasn't the best weekend for my weight loss. I feel like we were constantly eating...but it was great! We ate, he graduated, and we celebrated with cake. I was very excited because I got everyone to sign my Christmas tablecloth. For as long as I can remember my mother has always had a red tablecloth on our kitchen table and anyone who comes over for gatherings during the holidays traces their hands, writes their names, and the date. It's really neat because I can see my hand growing up through the years and we have a tablecloth that has my late grandfather's hand on it. I highly recommend this tradition to everyone.

Here's a picture from the weekend. Most of the pictures from the actual ceremony are very blurry...-

My adorable graduate! Can't wait to see where the future takes us.

This isn't as bad as I thought...

So this weekend my Maid of Honor and I went bridesmaid dress shopping. I know a lot of brides say this but I really wanted my girls to be able to wear the dress again. I even wanted them to be able to choose the style of the dress they wanted (within reason). But I wanted them all from the same store so we could be guaranteed they would all be the same fabric. So onward we went in the hopes to pick a store where they could select their dress. So we headed to David's Bridal. We tried on a few styles, even toyed with the idea of my MOH wearing a different print then my other two maids. However, my MOH (this is why I love her) said "You really want the spotlight to be on you and I think if I wore a different dress then the focus would be off you." There really weren't a lot of (cute) styles to choose from in my color - truffle. So we decided on this dress:

It goes really well with our Vintage theme. And I really think it will look great on all my ladies! So we have a wedding date set, my wedding dress purchased, and the style of my bridesmaid dresses picked out. So thus far the wedding hasn't been super stressful. I know it will get crazy but so far planning my wedding has been an absolute blast!

The Devil's Invention

Outdoor Christmas lights have to be the work of the devil! One thing I have inherited from my father is my eagerness to save a buck. So after Christmas last year I decided to buy some icicle lights at an after Christmas sale. 50% off - you can't beat that!

Fast forward to last weekend. My sweet Nicholas agreed to help me put them up outside. We plugged in last year's sale item to find out that parts of the strand do NOT light up. So we fiddle and we fiddle and finally get them all lit. I also realized that only one strand was not going to cover my wee little house. So I headed back to the store where I got the first strand and bought another strand (full price). Once I brought home the extra lights home we got to work. They looked beautiful!

Then came Sunday. Nick came over Sunday night and said "By the way part of your lights aren't working." It was of course the lights that I got last year that were the problem. So I thought I had found the light that was causing the problem with a portion of the strand. I tried prying the light bulb out and SMASH! Broken to pieces. (The lights were unplugged....in case anyone was worried) Next came the needle nose pliers. I tried to pry the broken pieces out of the pod and was less then successful. So I unplugged and decided to buy a whole new strand.

So the life lesson today: When you are trying to save yourself some money you usually end up spending more money. That's all for now!

One of the BEST days!

Nick (My Fiance) and I have been together for almost 6 years and we've talked about getting married almost a million times. So we both agreed on a time frame we thought would be best so as soon as fall came around I knew he would be popping the question very soon. I've always wanted a fall wedding and really had thought October would be the best month and knew I wanted about a year to plan. So when October came and went I was starting to get a little anxious. He would joke "You know in Ten Years when we finally get married..." This wasn't really funny anymore.

11-14-09 - My engagement day...the best day ever. So I woke up on that Saturday to a text message that said "Check your doorstep." I opened the door to find a bouquet of roses and a note that said "Today is the DAY! It's all about us. Get ready for some fun!" It said to get ready and meet him at the place I caught my first bass. This was at the George Bush Library. So after packing a small bag to get ready for a fabulous dinner I was off to meet Nicholas at the pond behind the GB Library.

Most people would say "Man, you knew it was coming." You see I am not one who likes to be completely shocked or unprepared. So it was perfect for me. Back to meeting Nicholas. So I turn the corner and I see him standing underneath the arbor across the pond. Of course by the time I get to where he is I'm an absolute mess. He said a lot of very sweet things and then got down on one knee and proposed. Afterwards we had a nice picnic by the pond and I saw that he had purchased me my very own pink "Lady Fish" fishing rod. We fished for about an hour and headed off for bowling, putt-putt and arcade games (what I thought our day was going to consist of). It was great. My first roll was a strike and I said "It's cause I'm a Scott now!" -Nick's Dad is a really good bowler.

Next we got ready for a great dinner at Christopher's. The food was great and when we ordered our dessert we were told that it was taken care of by a Mr. David Gardner. Nick had my ring custom designed at a local jewelry store - David Gardners. So the night started to wind down and we headed back to my house. We got to the door and for some reason we couldn't get the door open. After more messing with the lock the door finally swung open and my house was full of guests! My parents, Nick's parents, my best friend (and maid of honor), her parents, and brother and his wife, and my other best friend (bridesmaid) and her sister were all at my house throwing us our engagement party.

It was a fabulous day and it couldn't have been more perfect. I can't wait to see what other surprises Nicholas has in store for us. And I'm ready to finally start our lives together.

New to Blogging

Hello Blogging World!

So for awhile now I've been thinking about starting a blog. I've seen a couple different friend's blogs and then even some blogs of people I don't even know like Kelly'sKorner. It may seem creepy to look at someone's blog who you have never met but I really liked this post she does called Show Us Your Life where she posts a topic like "Show us your Wedding Dress" and then other bloggers post links to their blogs showing their wedding dresses. Anyways, now that I've established myself as a blog stalker...here we go...

So I found it interesting that you could be drawn into someone's life without even meeting them and gaining inspiration from their stories and creativity. So that got me thinking "What could I blog about and what would it's name be." I don't have a particularly exciting life but thought this might be a way to share with family and friends what's going on with me without sending weekly emails. Then recently I got engaged and thought ok blogging might be an interesting way of documenting the process of planning a wedding in a small town in Texas. Also, I have two crazy dogs who give me stories to tell my mom and other dog lovers on a daily basis. And I guess I'm still a new 1st time home owner so that might create some inspiration.

So now I have something I think might be interesting to write about...now I just need a name. I tried to think about everything that is important to me: My dogs, My Fiance, My Family, My Friends and I couldn't come up with anything that I loved. Then I tried Googling "Picking out a Blog Name" and nothing. I even tried the website Namethingy.com and only got things like Good Vomit and Rock Dogs which don't sound like me at all. Did you ever do the name game to find out your Soap Opera Name? Your first pet's name plus the street you grew up and I think something else crazy. Then I started thinking about what I wanted to write about - My Life and right now a lot of that is planning a Wedding. Well I grew up in the same house on Henley Perry Drive. That has a good ring to it. Then I thought - I met my Fiance on Henley Perry Drive (He lived three houses up from me in 3rd grade). So it's where it all started: My life as Jessica the young lady and also where I met my future. Ok that sounds really corny writing it down but I still like it.

Well I guess that's it for now. I will post as long as I feel it's somewhat interesting or something I think someone might get something out of (You know when I have 100s of followers in the future). Night!

PS I was never great in English so if I have grammar or spelling mistakes I'll go ahead and apologize now.
