Happy Birthday Mr. Scott!

Today is a special day. My fiance turned 25 today! 25 is going to be an exciting year for the two of us. We are buying a house (fingers crossed), planning a wedding, and getting married! Like I've said before we have been together for 6 years so I've celebrated 6 birthdays with him. I have to admit I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to birthdays and holidays so I try to do the same for the people I care about. So I was really struggling with what to do this year for Nick's birthday. Last year we spent the day at the Houston Zoo because one time Nick said he always loved going to the Zoo but hadn't been to one in a very long time.

But this was his 25th birthday...what could we do?!?! We are currently living in two different cities so I wasn't able to spend his actual birthday with him...we actually spend the day texting each other about offers on the house we are trying to buy - but that will be in a later post. And I felt HORRIBLE because before I wished him a Happy Birthday I asked him a house question. Sorry again sweetie!

Anyways back to his birthday celebration - If you know Nicholas you would know he doesn't really like large groups so a big party just wouldn't be his style. So we would not be having a surprise party. He really wanted to go to shopping in Houston so we did that on Saturday. He also really likes to eat at this really nice restaurant in town. So I thought instead of rushing back from shopping on Saturday we could go have Sunday Brunch at this restaurant. We did and it was fabulous! A very relaxing birthday weekend and felt very grownup.

Happy 25th Birthday Mr. Scott!!!

The Best

I'm kind of a picky person about certain things. Thankfully my Fiance is very understanding of this trait and shares it with me. I knew picking my engagement ring was going to be a difficult task. We first started looking at engagement rings about 3 years ago just for fun. We went to a couple of stores and got some ideas of what we liked.

Fast forward 3 more years and we were engaged! The best part of our engagement day was getting to hear all about the experience Nick had having my ring made. He said every time he left the jeweler he wanted to call me and tell me about how much fun he had. A week or so after we got engaged we went to the jeweler so I could meet the designers and see the studio. It was really great.

But what I really wanted to share on this post was the pictures Nick was given when he picked up my ring. They took pictures of him during the whole design process and gave him three photos framed for us to keep. I thought it was so neat because I got to see how much he cared about getting every detail right. And this is one of the many reasons I love him!

Two Adorable Babies

I wanted to post this yesterday for "Wordless Wednesday" but last night I was dealing with what I can only imagine is a VERY large rodent, a drifter taking shelter, or ghost hanging out in my attic. I even had to call my neighbors to come over and check it out for me...

But what I wanted to post were pictures of two adorable babies -

Don't we make an adorable couple? I'm guessing we are both around 6 months old, but I really am horrible at guessing baby ages. A co-worker brought in her nephew yesterday and I was like "He's what, like 3 or 4?" Turns out he isn't even 2 yet! I thought I would share these because I'm scanning a bunch of our childhood pictures for a slideshow for the rehearsal dinner. See ya next time.

A Beautiful Weekend

Simple weekends are probably the best...especially if Nick is in town. I had a pretty long week so it was really nice to just relax. We got up Saturday and went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. It was just built so we finally have a place besides IHOP to get breakfast no matter what time of day it is. I'm not the earliest riser....

We also got to talk more about our house hunt. I think we are 95% decided on a house. If we can get it for a low enough price we will have enough wiggle room for all the changes we want to make. So we went to Lowes to look at flooring. Nick had gone last weekend and picked out some things he liked so he wanted to show me to see if we would agree. And for the most part we did. We got pricing and wrote down product numbers for future reference. We think we might be ready to make an offer next week sometime.

Next we met my "Across the Street" work neighbor (Our offices are across the hall from each other) at a new to me yogurt store. We both work for the local United Way and a portion of the proceeds for the day went back to the United Way's Campaign. Finally we went to the mall and my favorite store TJ Maxx. We kinda have a dilemma. We have been trying to decide what to do for the groomsmen in the wedding. At first we thought Blue Suits would be nice because: It's an early afternoon wedding, kinda goes with the vintage feel, and thought it would be easier then tuxes. NOT the case. Does anyone know where you can get inexpensive Navy Suits? We have a while but we may have to go back to tuxes...

The day was so gorgeous, when we got home we went out in the back yard and threw the tennis ball for Bear and Rose. Well Rose really just tackled Bear when he ran after the ball. It was so nice! All in all it was a great weekend and I can't wait for the next one.

House Hunting...

Now that Nick has a job we know where we will be living after the wedding. Well we sort of do. This past weekend I went home so we could meet with our realtor. I have an idea of what I want...I mean what we want :). After living in my first house I know we want 3 bedrooms, at least 2 baths, a garage, and a fenced in yard for our two dogs. So Mrs. Diane took us to four houses. One was out of what we think our price range is but very cute. Two were kinda blah, and probably could not be made into not blah. And then one was very blah but had a lot of potential. I guess my main problem I need to get over is the fact that this house is not going to be our last house. This is our "starter home." We can start our lives in this house, maybe start a family and then it will be time to let another family do the same thing.

Now we need to meet with a financial person and really figure out what our budget is, find out if we would qualify for some of the tax credits (this would hurry our search) and if we want to look outside of the area where we both grew up. I figure if we lived in Dallas or Houston we would have at least a 20-30 min commute so we could live outside of the area and still get to work in a reasonable time frame.

I think the one that is very blah but with potential (we shall call this VBBP for any future posts) is still on our radar but we definitely want to get all the other details figured out before we make any big moves. I guess that's it for now!
